Thursday we headed off for our "European Vacation"... I think vacation probably needs about 4 sets of quotes because we took the girls with us. The girls did pretty well. We got to the airport with plenty of time (thanks Dad) and made it though security without any issues (I'm not even sure they checked Annie's milk.). We only had to wait about 30 minutes until it was time to board - just enough time to fill up water bottles and go potty. Annie screamed the entire time we boarded, sat down, and waited for everyone else to board. Apparently, the loading ramp was a bit terrifying to a 2 year old. She did eventually calm down and did great in the plane. She cuddled and snuggled with me during the take off and landing which was sweet. Both girls did great on the plane - there was just enough time to snack and color which was wonderful according to the girls.
This was taken with Jeremy's cell phone before we took off. We needed a photo for Annie's first plane ride but she was still recovering from her freak out and didn't want her picture taken. I'm not sure if her coping mechanism was quite right - gripping pretzels but at that moment we were trying anything! :)
We made it to Charlotte, NC with no issues and 6 hours to kill. We headed toward our gate just to be in that direction and we found an empty terminal. There were about 8 gates and 6 people for a couple of hours and the girls had a blast.
I'll use a football field to explain exactly how much room we had: Our gate and another were on the corner of the endzone with two more gates on the other corner. There was even a little room for fan seating that was a curved wall of all glass in which you could sit in rocking chairs (Annie's favorite) and watch the airplanes take off and land. At about the 10-20 yard mark, was a tiled circle with an old airplane suspended above their heads where they played the majority of the time. Then on about the 50 yard line there were to 4 more gates - 2 on each side. At the opposite endzone, was Carolina Brew Co. which was a huge plus for Jeremy. Obviousy, we were very thrilled of the space to run around and play.
